A misfit man finds a misfit dog. Ray, aged fifty-seven, ‘too old for starting over, too young for giving up’, and One Eye, a vicious little bugger, smaller than expected, a good ratter. Nous sommes au printemps. Ray, 57 ans, « trop vieux pour tout recommencer, trop jeune pour abandonner » et le Borgne, un petit chien tout juste bon à chasser les rats se rencontrent. De par leur condition d’inadapté, tous deux sont habitués à la solitude, mais rapidement ils trouveront l’un en l’autre un inséparable compagnon de misère. Alors que leur amitié grandira, ils seront séparés par les habitants d’une petite ville du bord de mer, qui perçoivent en eux une menace, alors qu’il n’y a en réalité qu’un contretemps. Une histoire d’amour atypique qui durera le temps de quatre saisons.
